Soft Egg Case Study
Case Study 5: Digital Signage
The Challenge
An existing customer, a junior school in Oxfordshire, asked Soft Egg to provide a display solution both internally, in the reception, and externally, located in the area where parents wait for their children at the end of the day. They were looking for a solution that will ultimately provide improved communications between the school and the community, replacing their existing school notice boards that were often out of date and unread. It needed to be easily manageable by their office staff so that it can be updated regularly with any essential school news, events and emergency information.
The Solution
After we researched and tested different products and solutions, a site survey was carried out and detailed recommendations made to the school. It was then decided that we would provide and install LCD screens and digital signage software.
Internally, a 26” internal LCD screen was installed in the reception area. Externally, a 42” weather & vandal proof LCD screen was mounted to the external wall, with a custom made security bracket that ensures the screen is secure and completely theft & damage proof.
The simple to learn digital signage software accompanying the screens, allows staff to easily create and update messaging, incorporating text, pictures, video & even live feed.
Some straight forward networking allows the software to sit on the main server so it can be easily accessed by members of staff.
The Results
The staff and governors are thrilled with how the screens fit in with the look of the building and reinforce the idea that the school is a modern, forward thinking environment in which to learn. A small survey carried out by the school found that the parents now find the screens invaluable and that communication has improved massively. They no longer have to rely on notes given to the pupils or just word of mouth! The installation has also had an unexpected effect on the pupils motivation. By offering the chance to have their work featured on the screen as ‘picture of the day’ or similar ideas, the pupils motivation and enthusiasm to learn and produce great work has increased.
The school is now even looking into the possibility of bringing in revenue or donations by giving local groups or services the chance to advertise on their screens.
